Golf Courses Available for the Pestana Resort Package

Gramacho
Nick Price, the former world Nr.1 player, has teamed up with the well-known golf course architect, Ronald Fream, to create a uniquely designed 18 hole course with 27 varied greens that enable the golfer to play the same course several times with different greens and new challenges. The design technique has positioned the greens and protective bunkers so that an 18 hole round is a genuine challenge. The positioning of the tee markers helps to increase this variety still further. As in the case of the Pinto Course, this course is maintained at tournament standard all the year round. In the Nick Price style, the wonderful characteristics already existing on the site, from the boulder outcrops and dry stone walling to the fig, carob and olive trees, have been complemented by artfully positioned lakes and bunkers. These hazards, combined with the design of the greens and fairways, result in a challenging but attractive course. From the first stroke off the tee to the final green, the player must not just play the ball well but also adopt the best strategy to achieve an optimum result. At the end of the round, experienced golfers will be able to confirm that they have played a good course, with a challenging 72 par over a more-than-sufficient length of 6,107 metres.

Vale de Pinta
The Pinta Course is one of the best-designed courses in Europe. It is a Championship course with an exceptional layout designed by the famous American golf course architect, Ronald Fream, and inaugurated in 1992. It has earned a deserved reputation for the outstanding level of maintenance of the course, and its design, which makes it a challenge to golfers of all standards. The Pinta Course was 5 consecutive times host to the Seniors Tour. The fairways are Bermuda grass, while strategically positioned sand bunkers protect the greens, clad in Pen Cross Bent, and two ornamental lakes influence play at four different holes around the course. The rolling terrain is dotted with carob, fig, almond and olive trees, some of which are more than 600 years old, and a very special feature of this course is one olive tree that dates back more than 1200 years. The dogleg trajectory for all the par 4 and 5 holes emphasizes the need for skilful driving. The size of the greens is specifically matched to the length of the approach shot. The course is 6,115 metres in length and is a par 71. It is certain to be appreciated by experienced golfers, for whom a round on this course will provide genuine excitement and a memorable and enjoyable days play.

Silves
Silves is a serene spot, but the course is anything but the proverbial walk in the park. Target golf reigns supreme. A drive at the opening hole has to flirt with two water hazards on both flanks. A heroic and straight shot will reward the player with an easy uphill approach shot. Silves encourages and rewards attacking play. It has a natural beauty and an elegant design. The excellent condition, all year round, is ideal for low scoring. A relentless test in precision, this course has no peers. It is the "archetype" of man-sized parkland golf. Most holes offer a spectacular mountain and valley view, overlooking palm trees and olive groves. You may even pick a few oranges or even figs along the way to the next tee. The severity of the bunkering is enough defence against the onslaught of the games big guns
